Our Story

The original house was designed by an Italian architect in the early 1900’s as a Doctors home and surgery. The current owners bought the property in 2002 and so started the continuous process of renovation to turn the property into a Guest House and Dive Lodge.  We recently added an on-site Dive Centre to create a one stop shop for all your travelling and diving needs.

The design ethos behind Agulhas was to create accommodation that respected the quality expected the modern day discerning traveller and diver. Our passion about quality and service is carried over to the Dive Centre where we are able to use our 20 years plus experience of running a successful dive operation and our experiences of diving around the world to ensure we offer you the best in dive service.

Meet the team

Owner/Dive Centre Manager – Brett Louw

Brett has over 20  years experience of owning and running a successful Dive Charter in Umkomaas. He was integral in setting up and running one of the first dive centres servicing the Aliwal Shoal with his father Mickey Louw over 2 decades ago. Brett has worked in the Bahamas specialising in shark feeding. He has recently emigrated back to South Africa. Upon his return he is passionate about bringing  to bear some of his experiences of world class dive service to our dive operation.

Guest House Manager – Mickey Louw

Mickey has many years experience of successfully running Guest Houses and Hotels.  Before moving back up to Umkomaas he ran the oldest pub/hotel in South Africa in Bathurst. Mickey has been managing the Guest House for a number of years now and those who’ve stayed with us before, will I’m sure remember him.  Mickey will ensure your stay with us is a pleasurable one and will look after all your accommodation needs.
